Victim Nation Lives
Consider this a kind of follow-up on my brother’s post just below. I ran across this at Jill’s Place and I am just astounded. Behold:
Watch Dan Rather apologize for not getting his facts straight, humiliated before the eyes of America, voluntarily undermining his credibility and career of over thirty years. Observe Donna Brazille squirm as she is ridiculed by Bay Buchanan, and pronounced irrelevant and nearly non-existent. Listen as Donna and Nancy Pelosi and Senator Charles Schumer take to the airwaves saying that they have to go back to the drawing board and learn from their mistakes and try to be better, more likable, more appealing, have a stronger message, speak to morality. Watch them awkwardly quote the bible, trying to speak the new language of America. Surf the blogs, and read the comments of dismayed, discombobulated, confused individuals trying to figure out what they did wrong. Hear the cacophony of voices, crying out, “Why did they beat me?”
And then ask anyone who has ever worked in a domestic violence shelter if they have heard this before.
They will tell you, every single day.
The author of this piece is Mel Gilles, a long time advocate for victims of domestic abuse. I really believe you owe it to yourself to Read The Whole Thing.
Victim Nation is alive and well on the left, I see. Once again, it cannot possibly be that 60 million voters looked at what the left had to offer and found it wanting. No, it’s all the result of being on the wrong end of a violent and abusive relationship, suffering years of beatings at the hands of RoveCo, a wholly owned subsidiary of the GOP.
I’ll bite on the meme, though. If the center-left has been beaten and abused over the years it has been by a Democratic Party that long ago lost touch with the people and substituted the fawning of elitists and the favor of victim-groups for any understanding of what the center actually wants or believes. They took the rank and file for granted, and now that their power base is eroding they are trapped so deeply in this delusional state that they cannot comprehend any vehicle by which this might have been delivered other than that they have been abused so badly they have fallen in to the victim trap. So of course it is only by recognizing their status as sainted victims can they regain the power that is theirs by Divine Right.
Let me offer a one word analysis: Pathetic.
Posted by jeddy at November 30, 2004 02:35 AMInteresting read...It's like Mr. MaGoo looking desparately for his glasses while they list gently on top of his own noggin. While Nancy Pelosi searches admirably for the answer to her party's woes...she misses the fact that her very appointment (and remaining) to Whip shows that they have absolutely no idea what the problem is. Yet. it's so obvious to many (meaning us). As is the calling card...the inability to analyze the problem creates the ol' standbye...Thou is a victim...
She jaunts back to her home district in downtown San Francisco where her subordinants convince her she is going too far center...While back in the real world...
